PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Three weeks ago, a woman was found strangled to death in her home.  For the first time since her body was discovered, friends of the victim are gathering in her memory.

According to detectives, Beverly Ennis Moore, 52, was sexually assaulted, strangled, then left for dead in the bathtub.

The incident happened Sept. 27 in broad daylight on Sloop Point Road, but the 911 call didn't come in until after 9:00 that night.

Detective Scott Lawson said Moore's husband found her body and went to a neighbor's house for help.

Moore's friends say their nights are restless because they fear for their own lives.  They are held a candlelight vigil to remember Moore and to remind the community her murderer is still at large.

"[The vigil is] in memory of Beverly, and most importantly to get justice and put the killer or killers behind bars where they belong so they cannot hurt anybody else," said a friend of Moore.

Detectives are still investigating the case but, no arrests have been made.  A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Moore.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Pender County Sheriff's Office, (910) 259-1438 or the NC SBI, 1-800-334-300.
