Fishermen argue for the return of offshore weather reports

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Some area fisherman were outraged when the Local Weather Service made a change in weather radio reports.

At the end of August, the weather service stopped providing long-term, off-shore reports, because they said there wasn't enough time for every land and marine report.

But, fishermen argue the long-term forecast help prevent an emergency situation.  They say it can take up to a day to get back, and the report could make the difference between life and death.

After receiving several complaints, the weather service brought back a shorter version of the reports.

The five-day, off-shore forecast has been cut to two days.  They say boaters can use their phone and web service for more.
