Heavy showers can be disheartening for some, but it didn't dampen the spirits for Black Hat fans. The game lived up to the hype and it was a nail biter from start to finish.

Topsail never lost the lead the whole game with the help of three different players reaching the end zone and a display of toughness and leadership by the upperclassmen on the team. Ryan Floyd said he was "pumped" after scoring his first touchdown this season on Homecoming night.

The football team has now increased its record to 2-2 and has won the last three homecoming games in a row. During halftime Zatha Loewen and Tyre Blakely were announced as Homecoming King and Queen.

It was an exciting finish to a week full of school related festivities and I can speak for the rest of the Topsail community, we are proud of our team for putting on a great show.

The final score was Topsail: 25, Swansboro: 22.

I asked the quarterback, Nick Powers to share some thoughts about Friday's win.

Q: How does it feel to have been part of the football team all 4 years of high school?
A: I have a lot of great memories with my teammates; it was a significant part of my high school experience. I will always remember my senior Homecoming game.

Q: It seems that Topsail always has good luck on Homecoming night. Were you nervous coming into the game?
A: We just came off a two game losing streak and definitely needed a win. I think if anyone deserved it, it was the fans. However, my mindset was just like preparing for any other game.

Q: What part of Homecoming did you enjoy the most?
A: As soon as the game was over, I looked up at the scoreboard and saw that we had won. It came down to the wire and it felt good to know that our efforts paid off.
