Bald Head Island renourishment project to begin early

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Bald Head Island will soon be getting relief to fight the erosion problem in the area.

The island has suffered severe erosion problems since the corps dredged a nearby channel.

Now, the proposed renourishment project is expected to begin three weeks early.

Town Manager Calvin Peck said they've received approval from the Army Crops of Engineers and state officials to start pumping sand from Jay Bird Shoals onto the beaches.

Crews will beginning working on the project November 1.
