KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - This weekend around 5,000 people gathered in Kure Beach for the 7th annual Southern Coastal Bluegrass Festival.
The musicians said most bluegrass festivals take place in the mountains, so it was nice to change the beat and have a festival on the coast. This festival not only entertained people, it also raised money for one of the oldest theater companies in the state.
"It's a non-profit organization," said Jerry Flake the chairman of the festival. "And the theatrical costs aren't always covered by the tickets that are sold. So something like this helps off set some of those."
The Southern Coastal Bluegrass Festival benefits the Thalian association which will present the play "The Phantom" next weekend at the Keenan auditorium at UNCW.
