UNCW hosts community service fair

Posted by Debra Worley - email

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Only 12 percent of nonprofit organizations anticipate breaking even financially this year, according to the Nonprofit Finance Fund.

In an effort to help those organizations, UNCW hosted a community service fair Thursday on the campus commons amphitheater.

Nearly 50 nonprofit groups from New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick Counties participated in the event that reached out to hundreds of potential student volunteers.  The fair comes at a time when nonprofits are struggling to survive under economic instability.

Volunteerism is important for the continuation of services when staffing and financial resources decrease.
