WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington City Council will finalize the speed limit for River Road during Tuesday's meeting.
The busy road is notorious for speeding accidents and fatalities, and is heavily trafficked by drivers, bikers, and school buses.
After the city annexed portions of the area, the DOT requested the city officially set speed limits with an ordinance.
If the ordinance passes, the portion of River Road from Mott's Creek to Barnard's Creek will be 55 mph. The portion from Barnard's Creek, north to the first set of railroad tracks will be 45 mph. The portion from the tracks to Shipyard Blvd. will be 35 mph.
