NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning home invasion on Vespar Court in the northern part of the county.
According to the sheriff's office, a victim called 911 just after 2:30 Monday morning reporting that a man forced his way into the residence and attempted sexual assault. She was able to defend herself by kicking the man.
The male left the residence on foot in an unknown direction of travel.
The Wilmington Police Department responded to the scene with K-9 tracks, but officials were unable to locate the accused intruder.
The intruder is described as a heavy-set male, standing 5'10" tall. He was further described as having patchy facial hair and chipped-yellow teeth.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (910) 798-4260.
Authorities remind residents to make sure your doors are always locked and to be aware of your surroundings.
