NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a shooting that happened around 10:30 Saturday night in Castle Hayne.

According to resident Kristen Coomb, her roommate Mark was shot as he was walking along the intersection of Rock Hill and Reminisce Roads.  But, sheriff's deputies say evidence indicates the victim was sitting in the driver's seat of a car.

"He was holding his side and said he'd been shot in the side," said Coomb. "I saw it. It was a gun wound. He had pulled the bullet out."

Investigators say they're having a hard time trying to figure out where her roommate was when he was shot.

According to sheriff's deputies, Mark refused to cooperate with detectives while he was at the hospital.  According to Coomb, Mark is in stable condition, recovering after surgery.
