NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Saturday and Sunday volunteers at the Fresh Market grocery store in the Mayfaire Town Center teamed up with other Fresh Market stores across the country to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Over the weekend volunteers were inside the store giving away hot dogs, root beer floats, and gourmet cookies in return for donations that will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

"It is very important," said Amanda LaFountaine a volunteer. "Because everybody knows somebody that has diabetes and we're just trying to find a cure for them."

Last year Fresh Markets raised around $247,000. This year they're hoping to raise at least $275,000.
