PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Pender County residents will soon be able to learn what will be discussed in upcoming county commissioner meetings by looking in the newspaper.
Tuesday night, commissioners voted 4-1 to put their meeting agenda in three county newspapers: The Pender Post, Topsail Voice, and The Pender Chronicle.
Opponents were not pleased with the $9,000 annual printing cost. Those in favor of the idea say county residents will now be more informed.
"I think it starts a new wave of transparency in Pender County," said Pender Co. Commissioner Jimmy Tate. "It lets the public know that we want them to be knowledgeable of everything going on in their county government. I applaud the efforts of the board members to make this happen last night."
The agenda is expected to appear in each paper by the end of the month.
