NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A groundbreaking ceremony took place in New Hanover County Tuesday morning for a new private high school.
Officials with Coastal Christian High School broke ground on 20 acres of land on King's Highway, behind the post office in Monkey Junction.
Construction on the $6 million school is expected to begin by the end of September.
The building will accommodate 400 students and will have softball, baseball, and football fields.
"It's a passion in our hearts to have our own facility," said Brenda McCombie with Coastal Christian. "It's also a need for us. We don't want to turn anyone away who wants a Christian education in this community."
Their goal is to have the school finished by fall 2010.
