CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - The gloomy weather didn't keep tourists away from the area this Labor Day weekend.
Many business owners said sales were good over the weekend, despite the poor weather.
Many visitors said they didn't drive several hours to let the weather stop them from having fun. Some embraced the windy beach by wrapping themselves in their towels to stay warm.
"You spend a lot of money on things," said tourist Tony Mercer. "You get a hotel and then it's like oh it's gloomy. But you find a way to make it work for sure. It's going to be a nice day out today, I hope it doesn't rain on us, but we'll see how it goes."
Lifeguards said there were more people on the beach this time last year.
