NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Members of Landfall Country Club are participating in the third annual Patriot Golf Day.

The two-day event is taking place at golf courses around the country.  Throughout the tournament, golfers are encouraged to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.

The organization provides educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty. It is the third year the Country Club at Landfall has participated in the event.

"Between three and four thousand dollars every year has been donated by our members to this cause, says Chuck Qualey.  "With the amount of retired military we have on our membership rolls, it really is a great cause for them."

Patriot Golf Day was inspired by Major Dan Rooney, a P.G.A. professional and an F-16 pilot who has served three tours of duty in Iraq.
