WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - It now costs more to go to court in North Carolina.  Court fees across the state went up on the first of the month.

According to the state budget office the new increases are expected to generate $47-million the first year and $52-million the following year.

Criminal court costs went up the most. Now, if you miss your court date you have to pay $200.  If you need a criminal background check you'll have to pay $10 more.
