WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Businesses in Southeastern North Carolina are hoping for one last economic boom of the summer.
The Labor Day weekend is typically busy for the North Carolina beaches, and this year could prove to be no different. The boardwalk at Carolina Beach is already busy.
Some hotels are completely booked. Others say there are a few rooms left for walk-ins.
Many of the drivers heading into town are from nearby. Experts say many people are staying close to home because of the economy.
For those driving over the holiday weekend, AAA Carolinas says gas prices are up across the state, but there is some good news. Wilmington has the least expensive gas at $2.45 a gallon.
