NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Doctors with the Southeast Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) announced, Thursday, they've hired a new midwife at their facility.
The news comes a month after the management at Carolina Ob/Gyn announced the group's midwifery program was dissolved.
Susan Carvey comes to SEAHEC after being a midwife for six years at a hospital in Dallas.
"There's a big demand for midwifes here in Wilmington," says Carvey, certified midwife. "I hope I can at least fulfill some of that."
Carvey's first day will be September 16. SEAHEC now employs two midwifes.
