CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - The town of Carolina Beach is on the lookout for a spot to build a new, 1,000-foot ocean pier.
The pier will be built somewhere along the beach as part of a North Carolina aquarium project. The aquarium has chosen three locations throughout the state to build piers that will house sea creatures and educational exhibits, as well as accommodate special events like weddings.
Right now, the project is still in the very early planning stages. The Carolina Beach Town Council has agreed to purchase the land that will get the massive undertaking started.
The council met Friday, Sept. 4 in a closed-door meeting to discuss buying land for the pier and other projects the town is considering. No decisions were made. They plan to discuss it further on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
