WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A UNCW freshman athlete is making her mark on campus after being featured in an issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.
Stephanie Rose, 18, is a standout soccer player scoring a total of 200 goals during her high school career. Now she is bringing her talents to UNCW.
"If I wasn't doing it, I don't really know what I would do with my life because it's just kind of soccer and that's really it," said Stephanie.
Sports Illustrated chose to feature the freshman because of her compassion and skills in the sport.
"Growing up playing soccer and even now, I never thought that I'd be in any type of magazine especially Sports Illustrated, so it's definitely an honor," said Stephanie.
While Stephanie kicked an average of 50 goals each season in high school, she said her goal for college is to kick at least one.
"I'm hoping just to come up and have a good freshman year even if it's nothing spectacular, just to come out and learn and get better is all I really want," said Stephanie. "I knew coming into this that college soccer is way different than high school. It's more physical, it's faster paced, and everyone has a lot more talent technically wise."
