COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Tabor City teenager has been arrested in connection to the arson of his own home.

The SBI arrested 17-year-old Allen "Frog" Strickland Thursday around noon, in relation to a fire that happened at his home in July.

"If I set this fire how did I just set a $100,000 bond in a few hours, that's what I am getting too, that's what I told the SBI I am not financially broke," said Strickland.

Strickland was charged with fraudulently setting fire to a dwelling house and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

According to Rex Gore's Office, the charge of setting fire to a dwelling house is a Class H felony with a possible maximum sentence of 6-8 months.  Because the attempting to obtain property (insurance proceeds) involves an amount over $100,000 it is a Class C felony and carries a maximum punishment for this defendant of mandatory prison time of up to 125 month.

"Based on evidence they had they found Mr. Strickland is the one who set fire to his own house," said Gore.

In previous reports, Strickland said he was being targeted by an arsonist and he feared his life was in jeopardy.  He claimed he had to jump out of the second floor window of his home to escape the flames.

Strickland said State Senator R.C. Soles was paying for the home as part of an agreement between the two.

"He told me if I go to school he would put a roof over my head and money in my pocket, and I signed up for school and I will start classes when classes start back," said Strickland in a previous report.  "We made a deal and he stuck by it."

Strickland was released from the Columbus County jail on an $100,000 bond.

Now, Strickland is currently awaiting trial for arson.
