BELVILLE, NC (WECT) - A boy was still in the hospital Tuesday night after falling from a tree in Belville over the weekend.
"Teddy is a wonderful kid, he's very outgoing very adventurous," said family friend MacKenzie Loveall.
9-year-old Theodore Hiatt was climbing a tree in a friend's yard Sunday when he fell, severely injuring his neck and brain. The fall left Teddy in a coma.
Neighbors say the news of the accident is shocking, and they will do everything they can to support his family.
"I'm sorry to hear about the boy," said neighbor Leon Milner. "I'll go the homeowners association down here and see if there's any way that we can help the mother. I understand she's single and working and doesn't have any insurance or whatever and see what we can do to help."
Right now the family said they need all the support they can get. Teddy's mother, Heather Skipper, left a message on her machine asking people to pray for her son.
You've reached Teddy's mommy. Please pray for him, my baby needs all the prayers that he can get.
"He's very adventurous not very fearful of anything which is a good and bad thing, but he is most definitely a boy," said Loveall.
Now, the boy is left to fight for his life and his mom struggles to make ends meet while hoping for a medical miracle.
Donations for Teddy can be made at any BB&T or RBC Century banks.
