BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Crews have resumed work on the Oak Island Bridge project after being delayed for several weeks.
Construction on the bridge has been delayed several times for various safety issues.
In December 2008, a construction worker was killed when a concrete girder collapsed, causing a five month delay on the project. An investigation revealed a welding mistake.
Earlier this summer, several cracks on construction beams were discovered, forcing construction to come to a stop.
Oak Island Mayor Johnie Vereen said he is confident the bridge will be complete by December of 2009.
