Two counties lack emergency management directors

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - We're in the midst of hurricane season and two counties are without permanent emergency management directors.

Both Bladen and Pender Counties currently have interim directors in charge.

Pender County assistant director Charles Newman is filling in the vacant slot and said that nobody should be concerned at this point.

He said he has everything under control and is ready for whatever the weather brings.

"It's business as usual," said Newman.  "I've been here as assistant director for 5 1/2 years. We haven't changed anything. We're still sending out updates, monitoring the storm. If by chance we do get hit by something, I think that we will be well prepared."

Filing for Pender County's vacant position has closed with several people vying for the position.
