WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Folks at J. Michael's Philly Deli plan to make a 79-foot-long cheese steak this weekend to celebrate the restaurant's 30th anniversary.
They moved into a building off Oleander Drive in 1979 and have since opened two other stores, one in Monkey Junction and the other in Porters Neck.
Owner Michael Hutson said this anniversary is an exciting moment that he never expected to see.
"Wilmington has been very good to us and we've got employees who have worked for us almost 28 years now," said Hutson. "I get along with all the restaurants. As a matter of fact I eat at most of them, as you can see. You know we're just proud to be here."
The J. Michael's celebration will take place Sunday evening at 6:00. There will be a DJ, shag dancing, and a cheese steak eating contest.
