PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Pender County Health Department and State Officials are looking into a possible bug infestation at a Rocky Point plant.
Mari Jenkins, a Coty Inc. employee, has been treated for bug bites to her legs and back. She said beginning in June, employees who worked in the warehouse began to discover bites that made them itch uncontrollably and left permanent scarring.
Jenkins said she walked out of the plant after she said a Coty Health official tried to make her go back into the warehouse where she had been bitten twice.
Below is corporate statement from Coty Inc. regarding their Rocky Point, NC facility:
"Coty places the highest priority on the safety of our employees and goes to great lengths to provide our employees with a healthy work environment. We have always taken every possible step to ensure that our facility in Rocky Point meets our high standards. In recent weeks, we have retained expert reviews of our facility to confirm that those standards have been maintained. In the coming days, we will release the findings from these experts-including dermatologists, doctors and entomologists-which affirm the safety of this facility. Coty has taken this situation very seriously and we believe the report will fully address any concerns."
