WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - More than 1,600 will help thousands of first-year students move into the dorms at UNCW this weekend as part of the UNCWelcome 2009 Move-In celebration.
It is a longstanding tradition to have volunteers from the university and community to line up in front of residence halls to lend a helping hand to new students and their parents. Volunteers will welcome them, help them move in, and answer any questions they may have.
According to UNCW, this year is the first time in UNCW history that more than 4,000 incoming and returning students will be housed on-campus. They say national research has shown that residing on campus significantly increases a student's academic and social success.
