Weather plays role in double fatal accident in Columbus Co.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Authorities say poor weather played a role in a double fatal accident in Columbus County Wednesday afternoon.

According to state troopers, 69-year-old John Carter and 69-year-old Horace Lee Jacobs, both of Riegelwood, died after their vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into another vehicle on Highway 78 near the Woodyard Road intersection.

The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured.

This accident brings the total number of vehicular deaths in Columbus County to 20 so far this year.
