WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Guests at the Wilmington Good Shepherd Center were treated with ice cream Tuesday afternoon to help them stay cool.

An ice cream truck made a stop at the center to provide the guests with some relief from the hot temperatures.  The ice cream was provided by employees with the Wilmington Hilton Garden Inn and the Courtyard Marriott.

More than two dozen guests enjoyed the ice cream bars, popsicles, and sno-cones.

William Evans, who is staying at the center, said he can't believe how kind everyone in Wilmington has been to him.

"I have traveled around the county and I see how people have been doing and it's pretty badly," said Evans.  "So far, this is one place I have been to that's been the best. The people are just nice."

The staff at both hotels are also involved with a program called Hospitality for the Homeless.  They have donated hygiene products from are hotels to the Good Shepherd Center.
