FORT FISHER, NC (WECT) - Authorities believe it was likely a rip current that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy this weekend.

A ten-year-old boy drowned in the ocean at Fort Fisher State Park Saturday.

Emanuel Carter from Sanford, North Carolina drowned after officials say he was swept under by a rip current.  They said he was swimming with his parents and his 15-year-old brother when he went under the water around 2pm Saturday.

Rescuers managed to save Master's parents and his brother, but they could not find him.  Deputy Charles Smith of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office said the boy's body was found later in shallow water around 4:00 pm.
