NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A search is underway for Wilmington's next city attorney.
Wilmington City Council members had a closed door meeting to discuss the applicants interested in taking the city attorney position.
Current city attorney, Tom Pollard, is retiring in November.
Mayor Bill Saffo said there are 14 applicants, and they hope to narrow the search to five by the weekend.
"I think we have a great group of candidates that have made applications," said Saffo. "This is one of the most important jobs in our city and community."
The mayor said that they hope to make a final selection by next month.
