WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Three bouncers of a downtown Wilmington bar were behind bars Wednesday night after a fight broke out and sent one person to the hospital.
According to Wilmington Police, bouncers at Sidebar on Front Street were escorting 20-year-old Joseph Dauvray outside for fighting inside the bar.
Witnesses say there was a struggle and when Dauvray began fighting back bouncers began kicking and punching him repeatedly.
34-year-old James Butler, 28-year-old Steven Fox Jr., and 41-year-old Cedric Simpson were arrested and have been released on bond.
According to the police report, Dauvray sustained serious facial injuries, including a broken nose and severe lacerations. He was taken to the hospital but has since been released.
"I was standing outside to the right hand side and there were still a bunch of people standing out front," said a woman who asked to remain anonymous. "Then there was an ambulance that came and a bunch of cops telling people to clear the way, and I saw some guy walk with a bloody hand."
The woman was at Sidebar Wednesday night. She didn't see the fight but believes the victim was intoxicated.
"There's always a reason why a bouncer escorts someone, and I appreciate that they were doing that. Who knows what the guy was going to do."
She and others who visit the bar often said the bouncers are always professional about doing their jobs. They said they hadn't heard of an incident like this happening at the bar in the past and hope it doesn't happen again in the future.
