PENDER COUNTY,  NC (WECT) - Two sea turtles were brought into the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on Topsail Island last week.

One of the turtles was mortally injured as the result of a collision with a boat at Wrightsville Beach and died.

The other was a Kemps Ridley which is the most endangered of all sea turtles.

"She did have some scrapes on her under-shell, which tells us she was probably caught in a net and suffered forced submergence," said Jean Beasley.  "She does have pneumonia which does come from the forced aspiration of sea water."

The Kemps Ridley turtle is expected to be released next June.

If you find an injured turtle, Beasley said to immediately report it to local authorities.
