LELAND, NC (WECT) - The Leland Volunteer Fire Department's paramedic team made high marks at a regional competition.
The department has only been established for approximately eight months, but it's already making Leland proud.
"We wanted to be able to place and make the department have a name," said Colby Ballard, Leland paramedic and firefighter. "It really made us happy to be able to take something with us being a younger department."
The department ranked second out of six teams from around the state. They will now serve as alternates for the state competition.
Mike Herbert, paramedic and firefighter, teamed up with Ballard to efficiently and accurately complete written exams, in addition to successfully working on multiple patients while being timed.
