RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - Construction on North Carolina's first modern toll road was slated to begin at 10:00 Wednesday morning.
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority will construct a 19-mile highway that will cut 20 minutes of travel time between southern Wake County and Research Triangle Park.
Drivers will be charged through and electronic transponder in a car or cameras that will bill drivers using license plate information.
The expressway should be completely open to traffic in 2012.
