WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A woman who was cited for public nuisance after a homeless camp was found on her vacant property is getting some help from the community.

The city gave Sharon Efird until August 10 to clean up the site off Carolina Beach Road.  It's a tough deadline for just one person, so help is on the way.

Larry Kentura has worked in some pretty rough situations, so going into the woods should be easy.  Kentura says he wants to help put Efird's property back together.

When he saw the property Friday, it was quite a surprise.

"I thought it was maybe just paper, maybe a couch or two, not a residence," said Kentura.

It's almost like a little village on the property with make-shift beds, kitchens, and living rooms.

Police told Efird she had just a few weeks to clear her property, which she didn't know was inhabited, or she would be fined.

Kentura wants her to know he's got a crew that's ready to work.  In return for that work, Kentura is asking anyone to donate about $4,000 to help the homeless who were living on the property finally find a place they can call their own.
