NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The family of Tarica Pulliam is holding a very special book drive in memory of Pulliam who was shot and killed by her boyfriend a year ago.
Pulliam was a detention officer at the New Hanover County Jail at the time she was killed. Her family is choosing to celebrate her life by helping those impacted by domestic violence.
The "Remember My Name" book drive will benefit women and children in domestic violence shelters, as well as women who are incarcerated in the New Hanover County Jail.
Shequana Pulliam says that the book drive reflects the qualities her sister, Tarica, lived by every day. "Tarica loved doing things for other people. One of the things that a lot of the women she worked with at the detention center said after she passed away is that she never judged. She always encouraged them to do better. Keeping this in mind, the books we are collecting are motivational, inspirational and devotional," she said.
Book drop off centers include Supercuts on Oleander Drive, the New Hanover County Courthouse and several State Farm agents around New Hanover County.
