WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hundreds of mourners walked to Mount Calvary Church in Wilmington Saturday to pay their respects to 17-year-old Tyshawn Gause.
He was shot and killed last week at the intersection of Redcross and North Eighth Streets. Police have identified the key suspect in the murder as 32-year-old Leroy Sampson, Jr.
As family and friends gathered to honor the young victim, they hope to begin the healing process of a tragic loss. Alphonso Vaughn, friend of Gause, says closure will not begin until the suspect comes forward.
"He needs to turn himself in. They know who you are, you know who you are. Just turn yourself in and make it easier," said Vaughn.
The Wilmington Police Department is offering a one thousand dollar reward for information leading to Sampson's arrest.
