NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Police say the man responsible for raping and robbing a young woman July 13 on Dock Street is now in custody.

Damian Laquan Johnson, 18-years-old, has been charged with first degree rape, kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is currently being held in the New Hanover County Jail under a 750 thousand dollar bond.

Captain Marshall Williamson of the Wilmington Police Department said there does not appear to be any link between Johnson and the rape and stabbing of another woman that took place a year ago in downtown Wilmington; however, that case remains open and authorities urge the community to contact the Wilmington Police Department with any information.
