WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department is looking for a man accused of attacking and sexually assaulting a woman in downtown Wilmington earlier this week.

Authorities say a 22-year-old woman was walking along the 300 block of Dock Street when she was approached by a man who pointed a handgun at her and asked how much money she had in her purse.

Police say the man forced the woman a short distance, raped her, and then took the victim's cell phone and purse.

The attacker is described as male in his early 20s, 5'6" to 5'9", with slender build. He either was wearing a doo-rag, or he had short hair, with no facial hair.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3600.
