PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Some Burgaw town officials are not happy about a proposed treatment center.
Port Human Services wants to build a nine bed facility near Burgaw Middle School.
Pender County Commissioners voted to support the center, but some town leaders have voiced concerns about the center being build that close to the school.
"It's a safety issue in the town," said Burgaw Town Manager Martin Beach. "We want to make sure that these kids and the people that run this thing are in a safe environment."
"Say that the safety of Pender County residents is always a concern of the Pender Board of Commissioners and we have taken that as a top priority," said Pender County Commissioner Jimmy Tate. "Plan to work with the town council to address issues that they have identified."
Construction for the center is expected to begin in a few weeks.
