WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will sponsor the 3rd Annual Alternative Transportation Day this weekend.

Saturday, July 11, residents are encouraged to ride Wave Transit buses to experience what their public transportation authority has to offer.

In addition to waiving fares for the day, Wave transit has teamed up with the Wilmington Sharks and Independence Mall to provide free transportation and admission to the baseball game Saturday night.

The Sharks game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 (gates open at 6:00) and end with a fireworks show after the game.

Buses will pick up fans in the parking lot next to the Wachovia Bank building on Oleander Drive beginning at 5:45 and will continue running until approximately 10:00, or until the game is finished.

"We would like to thank the Wilmington Sharks and Independence Mall for assisting us in this important event that highlights the importance of public transportation and its' ability to help improve the environment," said Wave Transit Director, Albert Eby in a statement.
