NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Parts of New Hanover County reported more than six inches of rain from storm Monday night.
Flooding was so severe in part of Wilmington, officials evacuated dozens of residents from the ground floor of several apartment complexes off Racine Drive.
New Hanover County Emergency Management Director Warren Lee confirmed residents at Campus Edge and Brookstone apartments were evacuated around 10:00 PM to a shelter at Noble Middle School. There were six people and three animals staying in the shelter.
Lee said power crews cut off electricity to the affected complexes due to the dangers posed by the high water.
The following areas were flooded as of 4:30 AM Tuesday:
City of Wilmington
New Centre / Market Street
New Centre / South College
100 Block of Racine Drive
Racine Drive / Government Center
1700 Princess Place Drive
Kerr Avenue near Smith Creek Bridge
