CALABASH, NC (WECT) - The town of Calabash will hold its first ever professional fireworks display Friday night, July 3 on the riverfront.

Just north of the state line, Calabash wants to try to prevent people from using illegal fireworks.

"Calabash is having fireworks, so there's no excuse to set off your own illegal ones when there's a great display right in your backyard," said Jeremy Cribb in an earlier report.

Workers have already begun to set up the stage for Friday night's festivities.

"The town was looking at something to give back to its citizens, and we got in touch with our merchants association,"said Cribb. "The town along with the merchants association has been able to pull this together and have a grand event."

The Calabash celebration will begin at 7:00 and the fireworks show will start at 9:45.

The celebration will include:

  • shuttle service
  • raffles
  • prizes
  • live music
  • vendors
  • the Jaded Mayberry Band
