New rescue technology for the US Coast Guard

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The United States Coast Guard has a new state-of-the-art program designed to pin point the location of a vessel in distress.

The new Rescue-21 System will be the nation's primary maritime emergency system for more than 78 million boaters.

If a distress call is made, satellite and transmission towers can accurately point out the exact location of the call, making it quick and easy for the Coast Guard to respond.

Every Coast Guard station in North Carolina is equipped with the new system.
