OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Ocean Isle's first boating manufacturing company launched its first vessel Tuesday.

The vessel is a Q42 Express - a fully custom, 42-foot luxury sport fishing yacht.  The first ride marked the first major boat builder in North Carolina's Brunswick Islands.

"This boat is among the best in the world in its class," said owner of ISCY Scott Quaintance in a statement. "Its incredibly rewarding to do this right here at home."

The company plans to have 3 smaller yachts in construction at a time, potentially creating many jobs, because it takes 25 people to build one boat.

Scott Quaintance of Island Custom Yachts said many boat-buyers are downsizing in this down economy.

"That's why we wanted this style of boat," said Quaintance.  "It's a 42 foot knot a 72 foot convertible. A lot of the guys in 5 or 6 million dollar boats are coming back down in size."

Naval architect Donald L. Blount and associates designed the hull for the Q42 to work in shallow and open water with Carolina flare and a Palm Beach shear line.

Extra amenities onboard include:

  • an Eskimo ice machine
  • insulated fish boxes
  • tackle storage
  • built-in tuna tubes
  • 45-gallon live-well
  • bait prep center
  • air conditioning

Island Style Custom Yachts will build boats and yachts year round.  According to the owner, it can take anywhere from several months to a year to build a boat.
