Columbus County Farmers Market vying for national title

Posted by Laura Sinacori - email

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Columbus County Community Farmers Market is trying to gain some national recognition.

A contest is being held by American Farmlands Trust to name America's favorite market. Customers across the nation will vote for their favorite market online. One small, medium, and large farmers market will win the title of America's Favorite Farmers Market for 2009.

The Columbus County market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 7am until noon in Whiteville. The director of the market says their venue stands out, unlike any other.

"We are more than just a place where people come to sell products, produce, fruits and vegetables," said Kip Godwin the director of the market. "We really are an important part of the community."
