NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Many New Hanover County schools are under construction this summer, and crews say their projects are on schedule.
"I think it's like day and night. It's a totally different feeling in here. It's beautiful," says Pete Zucco, Williston Superintendent of Construction. "It hadn't had a whole lot done before we got it and it's had a major facelift."
Zucco is talking about the Williston Middle School renovation project. Students are expected to be able to attend classes in the building by Fall.
While students anticipate going back to school, Alan Powell with Interior Systems Furniture is staying busy.
"Everything that we have been contracted to do as far as school furniture goes for New Hanover County School is right on schedule," said Powell. "We'll be doing the Castle Hayne Elementary School project the week of July 5."
Other schools scheduled for future construction include the parking area at Noble Middle School and the foundation and roof at Snipes Academy.
Construction crews say they are happy the economy has not put the brakes on these projects. Most of the school construction projects are being paid for by old bond money.
