NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Some members of the Wilmington Model Flying Club say a new park in Wilmington will leave them in a no fly zone.
City and county leaders broke ground Wednesday on the new Olsen Park which will be located on Murrayville Road.
Officials have told members of the flying club they will no longer be able to fly their planes at the park after Saturday.
Flying club members say they use open fields for safety reasons, and are worried it will be difficult to find a different place to fly.
"It's really hard because you're not just looking at a 500 foot runway," said club member Kevin Butler. "You're looking at what we call fly over area. You need some area that doesn't have houses. Some of these things weigh 30, 40 pounds. You can't fly them over somebody's house."
According to club members, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said he will help find them a new location.
