Parents owe over $30,000 to NHC schools for lunches

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County Schools are missing thousands of dollars in unpaid lunch money.

Throughout the year children can pay cash for lunch each day, or parents can pay a lump sum and receive a bill when the pre-paid lunches run out.

After calculating the unpaid bills from the 2008-09 school year, New Hanover County Schools found they are $36,900 short.

Officials say they are sending bills to families who owe lunch money, but they heavily rely on parents to pay the bills.
