NC Senators vote in favor of film incentive bill

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - North Carolina senators approved a bill Wednesday that would  expand incentives to film makers.

Senator Julia Boseman said a bill going up for vote would increase the tax break incentives from 15% to 25%.

Industry insiders say it's needed to keep films from leaving North Carolina for other states with better offers.

Advocates point to a Miley Cyrus movie that Walt Disney planned to film in Wilmington but moved to Georgia, which offers incentives of up to 30 percent.

Opponents say incentives only benefit Hollywood and that states never recoup the money they spend.

The film incentive bill will now go onto the state House.
